What should I know about the high altitude and mountain sickness?

Arriving in Tibet, most visitors feel a little bit uncomfortable but it generally disappears through acclimatization in several hours to one day or two.

For some people the symptoms get worse at night that include headache, dizziness, lethargy, loss of appetite, nausea, breathlessness and irritability. Difficulty of sleeping is another common symptom. Some travelers have trouble sleeping for the first night.

The following suggestions will help you to get rid of high altitude issues

Drink plenty of water to keep the body properly hydrated and eat carbohydrate rich foods.
Try to limit your activities, walk slow, rest well.
Do not smoke, drink alcohol or take other depressants such as tranquilizers and sleeping pills. These will depress the respiratory drive and limit oxygen intake.
Try do not get a cold before your arrival in Tibet.
What Medication is good to prevent high altitude?

Diamox or Acetazolamide is helpful. It helps you to breathe faster so that you metabolize more oxygen. We will suggest you to take Diamox 24 hours before you go to altitude and continue for at least five days at higher altitude. You should consult your physician for this matter.
